doug maximo, cmrp - Maintenance and Reliability Process Development and Implementation Lead at Shell Exploration and Production

Top qualities: Personable, Expert, High Integrity.

“Greg would score highly in all of the top attributes listed, but above all it is his High Integrity that stands out, permeates and enables all the others. I believe that this value also is expected of and resonates through those that he hires to work in his company. Greg is an expert in his field and can not only identify opportunities for improvement, but can deliver effective solutions. The depth of his expertise, and therefore the solutions, is not only at the business process/management system level, but can be taken in many cases to the day to day activity and transactional level details of the field based practitioner. Because of Greg's personable nature, communication style and trustworthiness, delivery of solutions is done in a way that is understandable and palatable from the management level to the shop floor level. As mentioned above, Greg's communication style is very effective regardless of the organizational level and customer that he is working with. Again, from board room to shop floor. In summary, Greg would get a 5 star rating from myself and those that he has worked with over the years in support of my company. He personally is the first name that is requested when I am queried for available support from my very demanding organization.”

Mike Bresko - Lean Management | Lean Healthcare | Business Transformation | Author

I asked Greg to join our Operational Excellence and Maintenance consulting and implementation team to support a major transformation project. This project helped our client install world-class practices for managing, operating, and maintaining. Some of the specific methods that Greg applied were: Autonomous Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Root Cause Failure Analysis, Standard Work, 5S and Visual Management, and Routine Management (focused on the front-line leader). Prior to Greg's starting on this project, another consultant had performed inadequately. Greg was quickly able to win over the client with both his technical expertise and his interpersonal skills. Through active listening, he was able to bridge concerns and help the organization become enthused about the journey toward world class. He established a detailed implementation plan and helped bring discipline to executing that plan.

John Supple - Laurel Steel

Back in May of 2006 Laurel Steel was struggling like many organizations to become more proactive in the Maintenance of our facilities and equipment. Costs were rising to maintain equipment and uptime or lack thereof was becoming more and more concerning.

It seemed to be an uphill struggle. We had a PM program but how did we know we were PM'ing the equipment properly, were we checking the right components at the right intervals? Reducing our unscheduled downtime was a never ending battle and we had a lot of spare parts but, were they the right parts? There was a lot of work that needed to get done on the lines but most often we got to it when it broke down.

I met Greg Como through a business contact that was very pleased with the results that they had gained with GCC's assistance so we lined up a meeting. Greg's background in Maintenance and Engineering is extensive and he has used his process in a variety of different organizations and his plan is very simple, create a plan for your organization and then work the plan.

Laurel Steel had a lot of habits and mindsets, some good, and others not so good that we had to sift through. We also had a lot of gaps with no really well defined process that encompassed all of our Maintenance activities. The Process Development step allowed us to take a step back and look at the bigger picture, something that organizations often fail to do unless you have someone chasing you on it. Greg forced us to look in the mirror. We looked at all of the components of our Maintenance Dept. from parts ordering and inventory control to PM programs to the management of workload etc. It was quite a learning experience.

I think where GCC's value really started to show through was the assistance in the implementation side. It's hard to push through on a project of this nature without some assistance especially when you have many long service employees who are used to doing their work a certain way. Going through this process exposed the strengths and weaknesses within the department, we made the changes necessary to be successful but it is a never ending process. A process quite frankly we could not have achieved without the help of GCC.

We are about 2-years after GCC and we are continuing to improve the process. We have seen the costs to maintain our equipment come down in 5 of 7 departments and our uptime continues to improve. It was a long and sometimes bumpy road that we traveled in this venture but one that was necessary. Like many organizations the recent downturn hit us hard, but we are weathering the storm, in fact, we are taking much of the mindset we applied to Maintenance and applying it to other areas of our business with great success. I think given the practical nature of the program many organizations could experience the same successes that we have seen.

Again, thanks very much, Greg.

Eugene Matzan -President at Matzan Reliability Solutions

I have worked for Greg on two projects and Greg proved to be professional and very well organized. Both projects were at remote sites and Greg coordinated the work and made introductions to the company’s I was to interface with. Greg is very knowledgeable in Maintenance Management Systems, CMS systems programs, and implementing, teaching and conducting equipment surveys and has a special eye for detail.

Ian. E Welch - Managing Director

For two years, we worked on several projects. During that period, I found Greg to be a dynamic, thorough and persistent individual who worked through to the finish on his assignments.

As Site Project Leader, his contribution was invaluable to the projects and he did not hesitate to share his expertise with his team.
His discipline and hard work contributed to the successful completion of his assignments.

I will not hesitate in recommending Greg for a position consistent with his expertise.
